Video of partying passengers on Sunwing flight a ‘slap in the face’: Trudeau

A video of partying maskless passengers aboard a chartered Sunwing Airlines flight from Montreal to Mexico has garnered some negative attention from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
During a COVID-19 update on Wednesday, Trudeau said the video was like “a slap in the face” as the country deals with the escalating impacts of the Omicron variant.
The video was taken on Dec. 30 and shows passengers dancing maskless, sharing drinks and vaping on the plane.
After the video was posted to social media, Sunwing cancelled the return charter flight from Cancun scheduled for Wednesday.
Air Transat and Air Canada also said they will not allow the passengers to board their planes.
The passengers included several social media influencers from Quebec and reality show stars.
According to The Canadian Press, one of the passengers is Rebecca St-Pierre, a 19-year-old student from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec who says she feels abandoned, not knowing how she’ll pay for her hotel room as her stay is extended indefinitely.
She says she has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating in the town of Tulum.
The Canadian government said the departments of Transport, Public Safety and Health have all launched investigations into the incident.
The passengers could face heavy fines and even jail time when they return home.
