Premier may be subpoenaed

The Premier’s decision to prorogue the legislature at Queen’s Park has opened him up to testify at a judicial review of another controversial decision connected to the Liberal government.

Dalton McGuinty and other senior cabinet ministers will now be subpoenaed and compelled to testify at the review looking into the provincial government’s decision to kill a proposed Flamborough Quarry.

The review is looking into whether the government acted improperly when it cancelled the quarry ahead of the 2011 election.

The quarry was in Ted McMeekin’s Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale riding.

And he was able to hold on to the seat.

St. Mary’s Cement has also filed a NAFTA claim based on what it’s calling regulatory failure in this case, and is seeking damages of at least $275 million.

The company is comparing the decision on the quarry to the Liberal government’s decisions on stopping gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.
