Premier Doug Ford’s first question period

Premier Doug Ford’s first question period got off to a hot start with Ford defending against allegations of back door politics.

“The Premier said that the payout to Mayo Schmidt was zero, absolutely zero. But now we know that Mr. Schmidt will actually walk away with incentives of at least $9 million or more.” Andrea Horwath, NDP leader.

“‘With your support, you propped him up to have stock options, the stock options are what you’re talking about but I assure you the CEO had the same benefits as any employee with their pensions and benefits.” Ford.

Education Minister Lisa Thompson also made her question period debut. When asked why the PC’s are replacing the current Sex-Ed curriculum for one used in 1998, she revealed that today’s topics would indeed be included.

“We know they need to learn about consent, we know that they need to learn about cyber safety, we know they need to learn about gender identity and appreciation, but we also know that the former Liberal government consultation process was completely flawed”.

In a statement, Minister Thompson said that while she won’t know what the new curriculum will look like, the interim program, which was created in 1998 and used until 2014, leaves quote “ample space to discuss current social issues”.
