Premier defends Green Energy Act

Premier Kathleen Wynne was forced to defend her government’s controversial Green Energy Act Tuesday.
The Premier was confronted by a group of protesters at the International Plowing Match in Mitchell, just west of Stratford. The protesters want a greater say in where wind turbines are built in Ontario. Last month, the Liberals said they would not give municipalities veto power over new projects. And while she hadn’t changed her decision, Wynne said her government is working towards implementing a new process in determining where turbines will be built.
“We recognized there wasn’t enough opportunity for municipalities to take part in where wind turbines would be placed. We are working towards a better process and that’s what we’re doing.”
Over sixty Ontario municipalities have stated they are unwilling to host wind turbines, demanding control over whether or not new projects will go in their communities.
