Two City of Hamilton employees have been suspended with pay after giving an unsuspecting co-worker brownies laced with pot.

It happened at a public works yard during a pre-Christmas celebration.

It was two days before Christmas in fact, at the public works yard in Stoney Creek.

Two City of Hamilton employees have been suspended with pay for bringing pot laced brownies to work and giving them to an unsuspecting colleague, who became ill.

Gerry Davis, City of Hamilton: “The supervisor noticed that he was ill and the paramedics were called so it was serious enough that he required medical attention. (Was he taken to hospital?) That’s correct he was. He’s back to work and we interviewed him the next day to find out what had gone on and he fully cooperated completely with us. (Is he upset?) Very upset.”

Hamilton police and the city have both investigated the incident and although police will not be laying charges, the city has yet to complete its investigation. If it finds the two employees are at fault, their suspensions could be lengthened or they could lose their jobs.

As for the victim, he has the option of seeking further retribution.

“(Gerry, this doesn’t look good for the public works department). You are 100% correct. It doesn’t look good the public works department has gone through a number of issues. It’s not funny, It’s inappropriate. and so that is why we are trying to deal with it as quickly as we can and bring resolve to it as soon as possible.”

Davis says the city is hoping to wrap up its investigation by the end of the week.
