(Update) The victim in this week’s murder in Port Colborne has now been identified as 31-year old Courtney Tourand.

Harry Leavere, 44, is charged with second degree murder, along with indignity to human remains. Tourand’s remains were found inside a West Street apartment early Tuesday morning. There’s a suggestion the body could have been there for up to a week. People who know Leavere seem to have a different take on him.

“I just moved out of the apartment next to him. He didn’t seem anything out of the ordinary.”

“Ninety per cent of the time I’d see him he was usually strung out.”

Rocky Atyeo is a friend of Leavere’s. He says they’d play pool and drink together at bars in Port Colborne. But he says he thinks Leavere has a problem with drugs. He has a bail hearing set for September 4th. Police haven’t said how Tournad was killed.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story stated the victim and suspect lived together. This has turned out not to be the case and has been corrected.
