Port Colborne man, 51, charged after police seize shotgun

Niagara police have arrested and charged a 51-year-old man after seizing a sawed-off shotgun in Port Colborne Wednesday morning.
Officers began an investigation into the unlawful possession of a fireman by a man in the city earlier this month.
Investigators then received a search warrant Tuesday for a detached garage that had been renovated into a living space on Steele St. near Helen St.
Police executed the warrant Wednesday morning and arrested Shane Andrew Thomson of Port Colborne.
Thomson is facing four separate charges, including possession of prohibited weapon.
Detectives found a loaded double barrel, sawed-off Centaure 12-gauge shotgun on the floor, ammunition and a switchblade knife tied to his belt.
Thomson was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
