Hamilton police plans

The Police Services Board voted unanimously on the plan to find a new chief that involves an internal search, and the role of acting chief will rotate between the two deputy chiefs.
Acting police chief Eric Girt and acting deputy chief Ken Weatherhill will rotate on a month to month basis until a permanent chief is chosen. We asked each one directly if they plan to apply, but they would not answer saying that they prefer to respect the process.
6 years ago they looked outside the force when they hired Glenn DeCaire out of Toronto. This time they will open the job to internal candidates which means they won’t be seeking the help of a consulting firm, which cost the service $85 000 in the past.
The job will be open to anyone who is an inspector and above, so that includes deputy chiefs and superintendents.
