Police remind residents to ‘Lock it or Lose it’ after series of break-ins

The Niagara Police Service is suggesting homeowners take extra safety precautions after a series of residential break and enters.
Police say some of the break-ins did involve forced entry but in other cases the doors were left unlocked.
Niagara police say residents should consider the following security tips:
- Ensure your residence entry points and vehicles are left locked “Lock it or Lose it”
- Consider an alarm system with an exterior siren and flashing light. Place decals on your windows and doors.
- Secure backyard gates.
- Consider a dog
- Motion lights
- Valuables such as expensive jewelry and other collectibles should be secured in locked safes and not left on display in bedrooms or stored in unlocked dressers.
Community members are also being urged by police to report any suspicious people or vehicles they see in their neighbourhood throughout the day to the Niagara Police Service.
