After a number of near misses on Hamilton roadways, emergency services and the City of Hamilton teamed up from April to June to remind motorists to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles or tow trucks.

During that three month campaign, Hamilton police issued 25 tickets.

The ‘Move Over’ law requires drivers to slow down and if the highway has more than one lane, to also move over and leave space when passing emergency vehicles or tow trucks parked on the side of the highway with their lights on.

Drivers can face fines from $490 to $2000.

On July 3rd an OPP officer was struck on Highway 400 while conducting a traffic stop.
