Police release video of alleged shooter wanted for murder of Stoney Creek man

Hamilton police have released video of the alleged shooter wanted in connection with the death of a Stoney Creek man.
Giorgio Barresi, 42, was gunned down in the driveway of his home on Portofino Place on the evening of Mar. 2.
Police received multiple reports from nearby residents of shots fired in the area.
Barresi, a father of three, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and despite life-saving efforts by paramedics was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators previously said they believed multiple suspects and a four-door sedan were involved in the shooting.
On Tuesday, Hamilton police released a video featuring Det. Sgt. Jim Callender and Barresi’s wife, Sonia, making a plea for anyone with information to come forward. Police provided more details about how the shooting likely unfolded and video from the night of the shooting.
“We believe that at least one other individual remained with the vehicle while the suspect confronted Giorgio,” said Callender in the video. “After the shooting, the suspect walked back to the waiting vehicle, which then fled south on Lido Drive.”
Surveillance video taken from a high angle shows a person walking swiftly down a driveway.
Callender says the alleged shooter was wearing a “distinctive jacket” and police are hoping someone may recognize it.
Detectives are still trying to determine a motive in the murder.
Police have described Barresi as a “family man” and his loved ones were inside the home when he was shot.
“Our family is forever broken. A piece of our heart is gone. I cry for the pain and emptiness that I feel, and I cry especially for my children. Who at such a young age will have to go on living without their dad, knowing that he loved them so much and he will not be around for the beautiful milestones that are to come,” said Sonia while choking back tears. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him. He didn’t deserve to have his life stolen away.
Barresi worked as a realtor in the Golden Horseshoe Area and attended Hamilton’s Cathedral High School.
According to The Hamilton Spectator, he had ties to traditional organized crime in his younger years but it is not known if he maintained those connections.
At the time of his death, police acknowledged similarities between Barresi’s murder and other homicides in the city related to organized crime.
“We are encouraging anyone with information to come forward to speak with police,” Callender said. “Giorgio’s family deserves to know what happened.”
