Police release details in Burlington standoff

Halton police have released the name of the man arrested after Tuesday’s confrontation on Burlington’s waterfront.

Oneal Ramkassoon, 32, allegedly hit a pregnant woman with a beer bottle while she was walking downtown with her son. An off-duty officer tackled the man, but he broke free and ran inside a house on Lakeshore Road. The tactical unit was called in and the man surrendered to police.

Ramkassoon is charged with assault with a weapon. The pregnant woman wasn’t hurt, but her son was treated for minor cuts to his feet from broken glass.
