Police probing Hamilton city workers scandal

The investigation into the asphalt scandal involving city of Hamilton works department employees has taken another turn.

Police have begun a preliminary investigation into whether asphalt, meant for city roads, was sold and used elsewhere. Earlier this year, 29 city workers were fired following a sting operation that produced video surveillance.

The employees are alleged to have falsified time sheets, sold city asphalt and used it on private property. Eight of the employees have since been reinstated.
