Police open investigations into 2003 and 2018 Canadian world junior teams

Two of Canada’s men’s junior hockey teams are now under police investigation following additional sexual assault allegations, one stemming from 2003 when the team competed in Halifax.
Hockey Canada put forward the revelations today on their webpage saying, “Yesterday evening, Hockey Canada learned of an alleged group sexual assault from 2003 involving members of the 2002-03 National Junior Team after being contacted by Rick Westhead of TSN/CTV National News with disturbing details of the alleged incident.”
Authorities in London have also reopened its case, where a woman alleges 8 players, including ones from the 2018 team, sexually assaulted her while intoxicated, following a gala in London that year. Hockey Canada settled a lawsuit for an undisclosed amount of money.
The ongoing crisis has led to a freeze of sponsorships and federal funding to the national body of hockey.
St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle says the committee is set to meet with Hockey Canada, the CHL, and other junior hockey officials next week.
