Police lay additional charges on 18-year-old accused of shooting in St. Catharines

Niagara police have laid additional charges against a man and arrested his girlfriend following an investigation into a shooting on Dec. 19 in St. Catharines.
Police say they responded around 2 a.m. to reports of gunshots fired at a home on Catherine Street near Hetherington Street.
Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds who was transported by Niagara EMS to hospital in serious condition.
Investigators believe the victim left his home and was then confronted by a male suspect in a nearby alleyway.

Police later arrested Taeshaun Haynes, 18, of St. Catharines and he faced multiple charges, including aggravated assault and discharge firearm with intent.
Following Haynes’ arrest, police issued a search warrant at a property on Louth Street and seized the following items:
- 176.5 g of suspected Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $50,000
- Drug trafficking paraphernalia
- $4,000 Canadian currency
- $225 American currency
- $100 Jamaican currency
- Offence related property (clothing)
- A sawed-off Stoeger shotgun.
- Glock 17 pistol and magazine
- Ammunition – 9mm and shotgun shells
- Collapsible Baton
Haynes is now additionally facing charges related to the possession of an unauthorized firearm and the possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Haynes remains in custody following a bail hearing on Dec. 19. His next court date is in January.
Police also arrested Haynes’ girlfriend, 19-year-old Charlize Knott, on Dec. 21 and she faces numerous charges, including obstruction of justice, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
