Police investigating Westdale sexual assault

Hamilton Police are investigating a sexual assault that happened in Westdale this morning where an attacker broke through a woman’s locked window.

The woman and her friends were out for dinner last night at the Snooty Fox. She returned to her Sterling Street home at around midnight and went to sleep in her second storey room. At 5:30 this morning, she was awoken by a man in her bedroom groping her. When she screamed for help, the attacker fled.

A friend says her window was locked, and police say the man broke in after climbing to the second storey.

The woman could only describe the man who attacked her as wearing a dark hoodie.

I spoke to neighbours and they say they haven’t heard of something quite like this happen in the area.

Police would not say what leads them to believe there is no immediate danger to anyone else.

The friend did say family and friends are around to support the woman. Police say it’s still early in the investigation and are asking anyone with any information or surveillance video to contact them.
