Police investigating weekend stabbing in downtown St. Catharines

Niagara Regional Police are investigating after a man was taken to hospital in serious condition after being beaten and stabbed in the early hours Saturday.

Emergency responders were called to the area of St. Paul St. and Garden Park near Carlisle St. around 2:20 a.m. for a reported stabbing.

Officers arrived to find a male victim in his 20s suffering from serious injuries after being beaten and stabbed.

The victim was treated on scene and taken to hospital for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation thus far has determined that the victim had gotten into an argument with a group of people in front of a nightclub near St. Paul St. when it escalated into a physical fight.

Two male suspects ran from the area and police have been unable to locate them.

Detectives are continuing to develop detailed suspect descriptions but so far have confirmed both are male, with one being white and one being Black.

Residents and business owners with security footage, doorbell cameras, or dash cameras are asked to check footage for any suspicious activity between 1:45 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.
