Police investigating an unknown substance found at John Sopinka courthouse

Two Hamilton courthouse officers had to go to the hospital today after a suspicious substances were found during searches in two court locations with two separate suspects around noon.

One of the incidents happened at the security station inside the front door and the other happened in the prisoner cell area in the basement of the courthouse.

The substances have not been identified. Hamilton police say it’s still early, but it’s believed to be a controlled drug.

The court officers reported feeling unwell after their encounters.

The courthouse remained open throughout the investigation, although access was limited to the back half of the building off King st.
