Police investigating car accident in Niagara

Three, young, Fort Erie residents were lucky to be alive Saturday after a single vehicle accident on the Niagara Parkway, just outside of Niagara Falls.
Around 5:30 AM the Volkswagen they were riding in failed to negotiate a curve in the road, crossed the on-coming lane of traffic, bounced off a tree, and ended up in the Niagara river.
The car landed close to the shore in shallow water, and the three females were able to climb out of the car and get help at a home near the crash.
Police, fire and ambulance responded and the young women were taken to the Greater Niagara Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and hypothermia.
Niagara Parks police are still investigating the accident, but say speed and alcohol may be involved.
