Police investigate suspicious house fire in Caledonia

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Caledonia.
Haldimand County Firefighters responded to the fire at a vacant home on Thistlemoor Drive around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
The home is the only one that sits on the land that was part of the former Douglas Creek Estates.
Over a decade ago, the Douglas Creek Estates subdivision garnered national attention as part of a Six Nations land dispute. The former owners were paid more than $16 million by the province to abandon their housing development at the height of the Caledonia uprising in 2006.
Police say there is no reason to believe the fire was connected to the land dispute.
