Police locate ‘suspicious package’ at Hamilton courthouse

UPDATE
Hamilton police have called in additional resources after 2 suspicious packages were found at John Sopinka Courthouse.
Police posted on Twitter Monday morning asking people to stay out of the area of 45 Main St. East.
HPS currently investigating suspicious circumstances at the John Sopinka Courthouse. Please stay out of the area for now. Updates to follow. #hamont

Hamilton police spokesperson Const. Jerome Stewart said the investigation started around 8:15 a.m. The building has been evacuated and Main St. has been shut down from James St. to John St.
Police wouldn’t say what was in the packages but said a 33 year old Hamilton man was arrested and has been charged with public mischief. He is schedule to appear at the John Sopinka courthouse on Tuesday.
