Police investigate ‘person in distress’ in Brantford

Update: Police say around 2:00 p.m. they made contact with the male inside the residence. He was arrested safety and is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. He is undergoing a medical assessment.
Residents are being asked to stay away from an area in Brantford where police are involved in an ongoing investigation.
Brantford police say officers are dealing with a person in distress in the area of Market St. and Grey St.
Police say they were contacted Tuesday afternoon after a 36-year-old Brantford man allegedly threatening another person.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered the man had barricaded himself inside a room.
Police have been negotiating with the man for more than 10 hours.

A resident who lives nearby said officers came knocking on his door late Tuesday night. They told him there is a serious situation and he had to leave his home. He hasn’t been allowed back inside since.
Waterloo Regional Police Service is assisting with the investigation.
Police say there is no threat to public safety but residents are being asked to stay away from the area.
