Police investigate after Niagara Falls daycare worker allegedly choked a child

An employee at a child-care centre in Niagara Falls has been charged with aggravated assault of a child.
Niagara Regional Police began an investigation into an alleged assault at the Way to Grow Daycare at 6071 Valley Way last Friday involving a child attending the facility after the child’s parents came forward and notified police.
Investigators learned that a 26-year-old man who worked at the daycare allegedly choked and assaulted a child younger than 5 years old.
Officers arrested Matthew Maxwell of St. Catharines Tuesday afternoon and charged him with aggravated assault.
Maxwell is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday at a St. Catharines courthouse.
Detectives say Maxwell was employed at Niagara Nursery School & Child Care Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake and have reason to believe there may be more victims.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
