Niagara police identify car robbery suspect in St. Catharines hit-and-run fatality

One person is dead and another is being pursued by police after a hit and run involving a stolen vehicle in St. Catharines on Wednesday.
Niagara police responded to a fatal collision at Ontario Street and Welland Avenue around 10:30 p.m.
At least two vehicles were involved in the crash – a grey Chevrolet Malibu and a black Audi S5.
The driver of the grey Chevrolet, a 31-year-old man from St. Catharines, was transported to a local hospital and confirmed dead.
Police say the black Audi was stolen from a commercial plaza near Scott Street just an hour earlier.
Officers confirmed that the driver of the stolen Audi fled the scene of the crash on foot, and was being tracked by the Niagara K9 unit when crews arrived.
Police confirmed on Thursday evening that Mathew Morris, 38, of St. Catharines is wanted for robbery of the vehicle. The fatality investigation remains active and on-going and police continue to work collaboratively with detectives in the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
