Police have identified the 36-year-old Hamilton man killed in a shooting in the city’s downtown core late Tuesday night.

Officers responded shortly before 11 p.m. for reports of multiple gunshots in the area of Herkimer Street and Caroline Street South.

Emergency crews arrived to find the man suffering from gunshot wounds in an alley. He was transported to hospital where he then died of his injuries.

In a press conference Wednesday, Det. Sgt. Sara Beck identified the victim as Tito Kelly.

Police say his family requested privacy while they grieve their loss.

Beck says detectives found a firearm at the scene.

Investigators have also learned that a royal blue four-door sedan, similar to a Honda Civic or Mazda 3, with a dark tint sped away from the scene westbound on Markland Street.
