Police break up hundreds of teens in Oakville after fireworks riot

Halton police were called to downtown Oakville Monday night for reports of a large group of 200 to 300 teenagers shooting fireworks at each other.

Numerous calls came in shortly before 9 p.m. about the gathering of several hundred people.

Police responded to the area of Lakeshore Rd. East and East St. downtown and worked to disperse the group.

Police say nobody was hurt as a result of the incident but they did lay at least one charge.

A 15-year-old male reportedly shot a firework in the direction of officers and was subsequently arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. Several other individuals were issued provincial offence notices.
