Police arrest man after downtown assault

On April 9, at around 2pm, police were called to 36 Hunter Street West after reports of an assault.

A man inside the Hamilton Go Station, assaulted a woman by hitting her in the face with his fists and kicking her.

Witnesses saw the assault and told police that the man had fled the location on foot.

Police located the man with the help of witnesses in the area of Bold Street and MacNab Street South.

The man took off when officer’s began to talk to him and police chased after the suspect.

When officers finally caught up with the man he became aggressive and started assaulting police and resisted arrest.

An officer broke his hand during the altercation with the suspect. The officers were eventually able to stop the man by using a Taser and made an arrest.

Police found a small quantity of marijuana was found during the investigation.

Police later found out that the man assaulted the woman at the Go Station after she caught him stealing merchandise from a store.

The 57 year old woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the assault.

Hamilton police have charged, 27 year old, Tristan Hubert Cocks from Hamilton with assault, resisting arrest and possession of drugs.
