Police arrest culprit behind series of home break-ins in Niagara

Niagara police have arrested a man accused of breaking into nine homes in Thorold since late last month.

Niagara police say the man allegedly forced his way into homes through open doors and stole an unspecified amount of jewelry, watches and other personal items.

On Wednesday, police arrested the suspect after seeing him try to break into another home in St. Catharines in the area of Roehampton Avenue and Bunting Road.

Kristopher Jon Hodgkins, 45, of no fixed address is charged with seven counts of committing break and enter, three counts of attempting break and enter, two counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

At the time of his arrest, Hodgkins was wanted on an outstanding warrant for five counts of failure to comply with probation and two counts of failure to appear.

Police say the accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in court in St. Catharines.
