Police act on tip about explosives in Hamilton home

A 32-year-old man will be in court today after police defused a potentially explosive situation at a home in east Hamilton.

Police received a tip Tuesday afternoon about someone making bombs inside a home on Cannon St. East.

Several homes in the area were evacuated as the explosives unit and fire crews searched the house. Police say they found a powered substance inside. It was taken to the alley next door and a loud “bang” could be heard as it was safely detonated. No one was hurt.

Michael Kearns has been charged with unlawful possession of explosives.
