Planning Tivoli condo

City staff is saying no but the developers behind a 22 storey, 100 unit, theatre condo project in Hamilton’s downtown core aren’t giving up. A public meeting has been deferred to the end of the month giving the builder time to convince staff the project is good for the city.
They admit the project would increase residential density, be well served by transit, and wouldn’t cost taxpayers a dime, still City of Hamilton staff are rejecting plans to build a 22 story condo theatre complex at the site of the old Tivoli theatre.
Staff argue the proposal would be “imposing” and “disrupt” James north’s pedestrian-friendly streetscape. But the architect behind the project says renovating the Tivoli to todays standards will cost millions that must be recouped elsewhere
