Placement of mailboxes are causing concern amongst residents

Some Hamilton residents say they’re not opposed to having their mail delivered to a community mailbox, but they do have a problem with where that box is going to be placed.
Miles Road near Rymal is a busy rural road in Hamilton. Sometimes there’s a line up of cars waiting for the red light to turn green. Neighbours are worried about adding in people who’ll stop to pick up their mail. The future community mail box will be placed right here in front of Edward Vanbeeks home.
“There’s no sidewalks, there’s no shoulder, it’s a recipe for disaster.”
Vanbeek says his concerns have been ignored by Canada Post.
“If two people stop to get their mail from that box people are going to get frustrated. People are going to jump out of line and I guarantee there will be some head on collisions.”
People living around that area say it is a bad intersection to begin with. They say there is at least one collision here a month.
The Canadian Union of Postal workers is also worried about the safety of it’s employees who’ll have to stop here to deliver mail. In an emailed statement, Local President Terry Langley says:
“The Miles Rd community mail box site is one of many locations raised by the Union as a safety concern. Unfortunately, it’s my information that Canada Post isn’t going out with the Local Joint Health & Safety Committee to investigate each concern, including Miles Rd. Consequently, Labour Canada has been contacted by the Union”
