Gear heads from around the region were showing off their hot rods at a car show in Brantford that you could call historic as they mark a big anniversary.

The Brantford Piston Pushers is the oldest car club in Ontario and one of the longest running in all of Canada. Today it hosted a special car show celebrating its 60th anniversary, also setting another record in doing so.

They were all fired up and ready to be admired. Anywhere from 500 to 600 vintage vehicles lined the Paris, Ontario fairgrounds, which is a record number of cars at a show for the venue.

The participants all attended to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ontario’s oldest car club, the Brantford Piston Pushers.

“I’m gratified. I just can’t believe the response. There are no words for it. I just couldn’t be happier,” said Doug Woodley, a founding member of the Piston Pushers.

The club started out with 14 founding members and has since grown to 135, but it’s not easy earning a Piston Pushers jacket.

“We have guys lining up at the door trying to get in. We have a waiting list of guys trying to get on. It’s a very active club. We have events all year long. It’s like a big family,” said Dan Bratina, president of the Piston Pushers..

The Piston Pushers continue to give back to the community. While admission was free, participants paid $5 to put their cars on display, plus they brought an item for the food bank. All proceeds from today will be donated to the Stedman Community Hospice.
