Captain Jack Sparrow returns in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film is directed by Norwegian duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) and stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Kevin McNally, and Geoffrey Rush.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth, a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry, a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy.

“It’s the kind of movie we grew up with and love,” Sandberg says. “That mix of adventure, action and comedy is what we’ve always loved about big American movies.”

“The Pirates films remind me about the kind of movies that inspired me to become a filmmaker when I was a kid,” adds Rønning. “Now that I have kids of my own, it’s great to make a movie that they can watch, too. It’s a true family movie.”
