Pioneer founder Murray Hogarth dead

Prominent businessman and philanthropist Murray Hogarth has died.
The founder of Pioneer Petroleum opened his first gas station on Hamilton Mountain in 1956, on Upper James near Mohawk. Today the chain has more than 140 locations.
Over the years Hogarth gave back to numerous causes, including area hospitals, McMaster University and the United Way. He was recognized with a number of honours, including Burlington Entrepreneur of the Year.
Hogarth’s death at his Muskoka cottage was announced by his son Tim. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
