Photo radar cameras nab over 5,600 speeders on Stonechurch Rd.

Speed cameras on Stonechurch Rd. in Hamilton have resulted in thousands of tickets.

The photo radar cameras started flashing on Oct. 1.

They are setup on both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Stonechurch Rd., near Dartnall Rd.

According to early data released by the city, 5,606 speeding violations were issued. That number could actually go up as processing continues.

The speed limit on the road is 50 km/h.

The average speeder was travelling 64.5 km/h, while the maximum speed recorded was 96 km/h.

The peak time for violations was between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The cameras are now at a new location on Glancaster Rd., between Rymal Rd. and Twenty Rd.

The city will rotate the cameras through 12 different locations.
