Hamilton has some serious talent when it comes to music. Local musicians have been hitting the stage throughout the week as part of the Hamilton Music Awards Festival.

There are the big names like the Arkells, Diana Panton and Jeremy Fisher, but there are also a number of lesser-known bands looking to make a splash at this year’s awards.
The Baltimore House in downtown Hamilton. is just one of many venues that will be showcasing Hamilton’s talent.

Tonight is the third night of the Hamilton Music Awards Festival And whether its country, rock, indie, the blues, Hamilton has it.

Stephane, Nic, Sam and Parth make up the Hamilton garage quartet known as “Pet Sun.”

Their name may not sound familiar and neither does their self-described genre of music “doom-pop”

Parth describes it as “pop songs written for angsty people who just want to scream and yell and go crazy.”

The band was nominated for a Hamilton Music Award for alternative – indie rock recording for the year.

The colourful and mind-bending video “Feel Like I’m Going Away” captures the band’s energy and creativity and make’s them unique to Hamilton’s music scene.

Nick says “there is not to many bands in Hamilton that play stuff like us. It’s a lot of garage a bit of noise rock.”

The guys say events like the monthly James Street North art crawls have given bands like theirs the exposure they need.

When talking about the art crawls Nick says “I find a lot of cool bands that we’ve never seen before. I think it’s cool seeing the industry come together especially the Hamilton Music Awards too and its just people are proud of their music, so i think we fit in now.”

The band is hoping to carry the momentum from this year’s festival on to their first North American tour, which they will be kicking off right here in Hamilton.

The 15-stop tour includes visits to Toronto, Chicago and Cleveland.

The band has been performing non-stop locally and was actually working on a music video ahead of this weekend’s performance.

“We’ve put our heart and soul into this and we’ve had a lot of songs recorded since September. and it’s slowly going to be released and its really really exciting.”

Pet Sun will be performing at Baltimore House later tonight.

There are more than 30 different bands and singers performing tonight in the city.
