Person of interest in custody after fire at former St. Catharines church: police

Niagara police say a person of interest is in custody in connection with a massive fire at a former church on Scott St. in St. Catharines Friday morning.
Fire crews say the blaze broke out around 6 a.m. at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church.
Fire Chief Dave Upper says no injuries have been reported at this time as the church is permanently closed and set to be demolished in order to become an affordable housing complex.
The fire that is now under control caused the steeple and roof of the church to collapse.
Upper says the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
