Pelham’s new community centre nearing completion

After two years, Pelham’s $36,000,000 community centre is nearing completion slated to come in on time and on budget.
We take a look inside the controversial structure for the first time, which initially made waves for its size and price-tag.
Crews are down to the last minute details.
Today, the town hosted a number of donors on a private tour.
The centre features two NHL sized hockey rinks, with one of the arena’s built to accommodate up to one-thousand seated spectators.
Plus two gymnasiums, a large community multi-purpose space, and an indoor walking track.
It’s the largest capital project in town history, despite some opposition from residents about the cost. In 2016 the town increased property taxes by $46 per year to help pay for part of the complex. That increase will remain in place for a total of 30 years.
Pelham Mayor Dave Augustyn says demand for the space is already picking up, with the arena 90% booked throughout the prime time hours.
A lacrosse tournament will be the first event held inside the community centre on July 20th.
Tours for the general public begin in July, while the grand opening is set for late September.
