Peel CAS faces criticism

The Peel Children’s Aid Society is facing criticism after an internal memo was leaked earlier this week that suggested staff were being asked not to close up files, as a way to secure more government funding.

At the moment, funding for the CAS is based on the number of cases it gets. On Friday, Conservative Children’s Critic and Burlington MPP Jane McKenna said that although the memo reflects poorly on the CAS, it reflects worse on the government. She said the Liberals needs to change their funding formula to better benefit the children. McKenna says funding should be based on performance and not the number of cases. She adds that the ultimate goal of CAS is to ensure the child safely transitions out of the system.
