A pedestrian was transported to hospital after being struck by a car while crossing the road in Stoney Creek on Wednesday evening.

Hamilton Police say a man in his mid 30s was crossing the street at Rymal Rd. East and Upper Centennial Pkwy around 6 p.m. when he was hit.

Emergency responders initially thought his injuries were serious, but that report has since been downgraded.

The driver involved in the collision reportedly remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police say no charges have been laid at this time but the investigation continues.

A portion of Rymal Rd. East faced an extensive closure as a result of the collision with eastbound traffic blocked at Whitedeer Rd.

Roadways did not open until around 1:30 a.m., almost seven hours after traffic was first blocked.
