Pedestrian in hospital after being struck by vehicle in Welland

Niagara police are investigating after a 33-year-old man was struck by a vehicle in Welland.

It happened around 5:15 a.m. on Sunday in the area of Crowland Ave. and Welland St.

Police say an officer was heading to a call when he saw a pedestrian in the middle of the southbound lane on Crowland Ave.

The officer stopped his vehicle and turned on his lights to investigate the situation.

However, before the officer could help, the man was struck by a black Honda Civic being driven by a 55-year-old man.

The 33-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver was not hurt in the collision.

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit have taken over the investigation.
