Pedestrian walking dog struck and killed in Oakville, driver charged

An Oakville man has been charged in Thursday’s fatal crash that killed a pedestrian.
Halton Regional Police were called to the area of Lakeshore Rd. E and Burgundy Dr. around 2:30 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck.
Police say the driver was travelling along Lakeshore Rd. when he left the roadway and struck a woman and her dog, who were walking along a path.
The 51-year-old has since been identified as Louise Whiten, a speech pathologist in Mississauga. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog also died.
Kevin Hyde, 58, of Oakville, has been charged with impaired operation causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

He is scheduled to make a virtual court appearance on Jan. 12.
Police say they are not identifying the victim at the request of the family.
