Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, directed by Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, She’s the Man), is the sequel to the 2009 film Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The first film grossed $183-million worldwide when it was released, so Universal will be hoping for a similar performance out of the sequel. Kevin James returns to play the title cop and is joined in the cast by Molly Shannon, Neal McDonough, Daniella Alonso, David Henrie, Raini Rodriguez, Loni Love, and Geovanni Gopradi.

After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

James was a little surprised at how successful the film was back then. “People seemed to really like the Blart character. I think at first, they’re not sure what to make of this chubby guy, with a mustache, riding a Segway… but when they see how much heart he has, they can’t help but root for him. I think we all want to see him succeed and get the job done. When Blart finds out there’s trouble at the hotel, he throws himself right into the fire. He can’t enjoy a vacation when there’s bad stuff happening – it’s not how he’s wired.”

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is rated PG.
