The Liberals have announced they are giving up the majority on the committee that will explore electoral reform.

The NDP put forward a motion to see the committee’s membership reflect each party’s share of the popular vote in the 2015 election.

It is suspected that the Liberals would like the committee to present a ranked ballot system.

Mark Holland, parliamentary secretary for Democratic Institutions Minister Maryann Monsef, told the House of Commons that the Liberals will support the NDP motion and call on the committee to begin work right away.
