Parts of Toronto still without power after last night’s storm

While most people in Toronto have had their power restored today, some rotating blackouts are set to continue throughout the night. Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says the hydro system is hanging on by a thread after last night’s flooding.
Sherway Gardens mall was closed all day today because it didn’t have power. Along the Queensway in Etobicoke this evening the streets are hauntingly dark as the lights still won’t come back on. Lights at several interections are flashing red, while other roads are still closed.
Some neighbourhoods are in complete darkness as well.
Earlier today Mayor Ford talked about how the city managed the situation. “I have to sit down with Mr. Pennachetti and all the department heads and find out how we can get that information out quicker to people. So I personally was in someone’s basement that had four feet of sewage in this basement. I think we did an excellent job considering the situation we were put in,” he said.
The city’s subway system is still relying on shuttle buses in areas, and the volume of water inside Kipling station today was staggering. Crews are working to pump out the station and get it back to normal.
