Over $8M worth of illicit drugs, firearms seized: OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have seized more than $8 million in illegal drugs and firearms as part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation.
Started in April, Project MOFFATT led to the arrest of 23 people. On July 18 and 19, the force executed 14 search warrants at locations in Toronto, Vaughan, Barrie, Brampton, Mississauga, Oakville, North Bay, Engelhart and Pickering.
The 23 accused are facing a total of 387 charges. Police say one suspect was a Federal Parolee who was violating the conditions of his parole.
The people involved are aged 19 to 62, and many of them live in the GTA.

“Illicit drugs and illegal firearms traffickers jeopardize the safety of our communities,” said OPP Deputy Commissioner Marty Kearns. “The accused charged as a result of Project MOFFATT directly profited from violence and human suffering and show a complete lack of regard for the laws put in place to protect all of us.”
Officers confiscated 29 firearms, a variety of narcotics such as fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, around $290,000 in cash, and 10 vehicles.
Police say that the value of other confiscated assets linked to criminal activities amounts to $790,000.
The investigation is ongoing, anyone with any information about the trafficking of illicit drugs is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
