Ontario Provincial Police say they laid more impaired driving charges in an expanded Festive RIDE campaign that wrapped up Monday.

The OPP says 812 drivers were charged during the seven-week campaign, an increase from 655 in the previous holiday season.

“Drivers are reminded that the OPP conducts RIDE events throughout the year as part of its ongoing efforts to save lives on Ontario roads,” OPP said in a release Friday.

The spike came as the force conducted nearly 10,000 RIDE stops throughout Ontario compared with just under 8,400 a year before.

The OPP says officers who worked through some of the most intense winter storms in recent history also issued 208 warn range suspensions and 21 zero tolerance suspensions.

The OPP Festive RIDE campaign ran from Nov. 17, 2022 to Jan. 2.
