Ontario Provincial Police laid 56 impaired driving charges over the weekend as a result of their festive impaired driving campaign.

The impaired driving results were released on Twitter by OPP on Sunday, where police urged drivers to be better.

OPP Const. Kerry Schmidt said 56 impaired driving charges were laid – with 11 in the Greater Toronto Area – from 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 3 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Since the campaign launched on Nov. 15, the OPP says they laid 1,241 charges, with about 20 per cent of those in the GTA.

Police say 53 people died in drug and alcohol related collisions in 2022.
