Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say over 30 animals were removed from a home in Norfolk County after a complaint.

Police say on May 1, at around 11:00 a.m., OPP responded to an animal complaint at a Norfolk County Road 19, Townsend address.

A Good Samaritan was driving along Norfolk County Road 19 East, when they noticed animals in a ditch. Police say the driver stopped and contacted police after they couldn’t find the owner.

Officers arrived at the address and located several animals inside a residence.

Police then contacted the Ministry of the Solicitor General Public Safety Animal Welfare Services, to assist in the investigation.

The Animal Welfare Services located and removed around 27 dogs, five cats, one pig and one guinea pig from the home. Investigators also removed three horses and two donkeys from the property with the help of volunteers. It is expected additional animals will be removed Monday.

Police charged 63-year-old Jackie Parkin of Norfolk County with cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury.

OPP continue to investigate.
