People in Ontario wanting to get tested for COVID-19 in order to get international travel clearance are no longer eligible for publicly funded tests.

“This step is being taken to ensure taxpayer dollars are appropriately allocated to key priorities and to preserve capacity within the provincially funded COVID-19 testing network,” said a news release from the provincial government.

In the fall, the province updated its testing guidelines to include only symptomatic people, people who have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 or a resident or worker in long-term care or other congregate setting.

A full list of who can get tested can be found here.

“While international travellers are no longer eligible to receive a publicly funded COVID-19 test, we remain committed to ensuring that anyone who needs a test can get one quickly, at no cost,” said Minister of Health Christine Elliott in a statement.

The province says outbound international travellers needing a COVID-19 test can get them at various private testing facilities.
